An open looking contest but the one that sticks out is the lightly raced and unexposed H Candy trained 3 year old filly. With just the 3 career starts (One Win) she came from a break of 80 days to finish a 0.50L runner up to Star In The Making off 82 over 6F at Salisbury. The 4th Lady Of Aran has franked that form by winning off 80 in her next race. Sure to have more improvement to come and could prove to be much better than this opposition given time.

I have gone against the obvious here so be warned! The obvious is Global Hero who came from over 600 days off the track to finish 4th in a similar race to this and will prove much stronger today assuming no bounce factor which does happen a lot to horses who run well from a long break. However the Jockey booking of our selection caught my eye. This B Mehaan trained 4 year old gelding has had two runs this year beaten over 21 lengths in both of them combined, indeed he was over 11L behind the re-opposing Andaleep last time out so why do I think he could reverse 11L? Well, he won his maiden over CD here after being beaten by 12.50L in his race previous to the win, the horse who was 2nd in that race First In Line now races off a triple figure mark. The gaps in his racing shows he has had his problems but the ability was there of that there is no doubt. This will be the first time back at this venue since that first career win and for the reasons highlighted feel he is worth a punt at what we expect will be a decent price.

Not a lot of quality to be found in this class 6 handicap, even for a class 6 it looks poor by its own standards lol, but there is one that stands out by a country mile with the only negative being the wide draw. However after handicapping the race I have this S Kirk trained 8 year old gelding at least 2L better than these if running to or better than today's mark, even accounting for the wide draw he looks assured to go close today. Of the others Global Style makes most appeal.
Eagles Creek 17/2 1.5 Pts E/W (Bog) Bet365
Although Kings Slipper won well in a decent time last time out he does not seem the type to rely on, the other last time out winner Artistic Rifles has only had one run on this surface so others make more appeal and our pin fell on the W J Knight trained 6 year old gelding Eagles Creek who has shown nothing of note in his last two runs, however he is well drawn and the last time he ran over this CD he was a close up 3rd off a mark of 95 in a decent time. Obviously that was way back in 2017 and the fact he had nearly 3 years off track tells it's own story, but Oisin Murphy in the saddle and back over CD could we hope bring back a revival of that 2017 run? He also stepped up markedly on his 2nd run back after that long lay off. May take a few more runs but there is certainly more to come from this one.

Just the 5 career starts for this A Balding trained 3 year old filly (2 wins) with the first 4 of those runs being in Ireland with former trainer J Feane. Indeed she won a listed event over 7F at Naas in August before moving to current yard and was pitched into a Group 3 for Balding over 7F at Doncaster where she duly ran on late to be a 1.5L 3rd of 15 to Foxtrot Lady. Clearly has ability and the extra furlong looks sure to suit. Of the others the returning Ummalnar will be a danger to all if arriving race fit after being off the track for well over a year.
Kameko 11/4 3 Pt Win (Bog) Bet365 (Winner)
It will be a big ask to expect Benbatl to beat a horse like Kameko coming from a break of over 200 days especially with the Balding 3 year old colt already being a battle hardened horse after contesting some hot Group 1 races this year already. While our selection was winning this years Group One 2000 Guineas Benbatl has not scored in Group 1 level since 2018. Neither of the top two in the market will want too much moisture getting into the ground but both should be too good for the rest of the field. Massive chance.
Golden Hind 5/1 2 Pts E/W William Hill (Winner)
Just the 4 career starts for this D O'Meara trained 3 year old filly and after showing promise in the first two of them seems to have lost her way. However there were excuses for her 12.25L defeat last time as the ground was heavy which would not have suited and the fact she finished 4th of 10 tells us not many in the race liked the ground. She is the daughter of Derby Winner Golden Horn and her Mother only had one career success and that was on the all weather track at Lingfield. She is in our opinion clearly capable of better than that she has shown so far and the switch to this surface could bring out marked improvement?

Elmejor 14/1 1.5 Pts E/W (Bog) Bet365 (Paying 4 Places)
For us this is the most interesting runner of the day, as trainer J Best sends his 4 year old gelding to contest his first turf race. Just the 5 career starts (2 wins) all on an artificial surface and if handling the turf has to be given serious consideration? His head win over Lexington Dash over 7F at Chelmsford earlier this year is a stand out piece of form considering he gave that rival 25lb and a beating, what makes it more impressive is that Lexington Dash just run his last turf race off 95. Running off 84 today will certainly be in there pitching if handling the turf, the step up in trip (Breeding suggest not a problem) and the break of 106 days. Plenty of questions to answer of that there is no doubt but worth the punt as is totally unexposed on turf after reaching a decent all weather level.

Obee Jo 15/2 1.5 Pts E/W Paddy Power (Winner) R4 35p
Trainer T Easterby has made this race his own over the last couple of years winning it in 2017, 2018 and both divisions of the race last year and all different horses but all ridden by D Allan. Clearly targets this race and if it is not broke don't fix it! The trainer sends his 59 rated 4 year old gelding Obee Jo to contest this who should be cherry ripe after finishing just one length behind the winner Global Hope when 5th over 6F at Yarmouth (GF) last time out, he runs off the same mark as today. Had the re-opposing Herringswell just in front that day but is better off in the weights today. Should hold decent each way claims?
Baashiq 9/1 1.5 Pts E/W Paddy Power (Paying 4 Places)
This A Stronge trained 6 year old gelding is probably the strongest fancy of our 4 selections today. He came from a break of 178 days to finish mid pack (5.75L) 6th of 12 over 8.5F at Wolverhampton off 63. That run would have blown away the cobwebs and our selection looks attractive off his revised mark of 60. He won twice last season including over CD off marks of 61 and 67. Draw could have been kinder but great jockey booking in T Marquand. Looks on paper at least to hold leading claims.

Idoapologise 6/1 1.5 Pts E/W (Bog) Bet365 (Winner)
This J D Bethell trained 3 year old gelding is coming from a break of over 60 days so fitness is on trust but is the only horse in this field who has a progressive profile. His last time out effort when a beaten favourite was decent in the context of this race when 2.5L 2nd of 12 to La Trinadad over 8.5F here back in June. He was giving the winner that day a massive 9lb. La Trinadad has improved since that run, winning that race off
65 he ran his last race off 88. Worth a punt that there is still more to come from him.
Dapper Man 17/2 1.5 Pts E/W William Hill (Paying 5 Places)
By far the best handicapped horse in this field by a wide margin is our selection, however this R Fell trained 6 year old gelding has not been seeing his races out at all well. He has also had aa very busy campaign having 11 runs since the resumption of racing in June. He won off 80 in July of last year so to see him on a lowly 65 after starting the season off 82 he has to be of interest. One to watch out for is Nibras Shadow who has been dropped to 5F today which judging from watching some race replays should have been tried long ago, possible that the trip drop could bring a change of form and rates a big danger to all.
Casilli 11/1 1 Pt E/W William Hill (Winner)
A nasty low class handicap and all can be given some sort of chance, even the rank outsider Hammer Gun is not out of this given the ground will be better today. However we have settled on the Mick Eastbery trained lightly raced 3 year old filly Casilli. She has only had the 4 career starts and showed a lot of greeness and inexperience and is one that will certainly get better with racing, so weighing the race up would rather take a punt on this unexposed filly who surely has more to come? Her mark looks workable and feasible to believe she will in time leave the form achieved so far well behind, hopefully starting today.

Although this D O'Merea trained 7 year old gelding was beaten by 1.75L by the re-opposing Certain Lad last time out he is 5lb better off in the weights today. It is also the first time our selection has ran in a non UK Group race since finishing runner up 2.75L behind the winner Addeyebb in the 2018 Lincoln and was giving the winner 8lb on ground that would not have been ideal. With no rain forecast at Ayr we expect the going to lose some of the juice in it. This represents a class drop and although a non handicap is weighted to go very close. Excellent claims

Aberama Gold 16/1 1 Pt E/W Skybet (Paying 6 Places) 5th
Loads in this can be given a chance but the stand and and obvious choice is our selection the A Balding trained 3 year colt. Only 3 career starts so is totally unexposed and came back from seasonal break to run the Group winner in waiting Starman to 2.5L when 2nd behind that rival, that was a cracking effort coming from nearly a year off the track and every chance more to come and would be a welcome winner for owner Her Majesty The Queen. He looks certain to go close but if for some reason he does not perform well we suggest having a saver on our second selection. The K Dalgleish trained 3 year old colt was a rapid improver as a 2 year going from a mark of 78 to over 100 within 6 runs. Although not showing much in his runs so far this year he is getting better with each of them and from a falling mark of 94 today could surprise?

Major Jumbo 25/1 0.50 Pt E/W Skybet (Paying 7 Places)
Arecibo 14/1 0.50 Pt E/W Skybet (Paying 7 Places) 7th
We have gone 3 fold which we have never done before but with the 7 places on offer from Skybet it is worth chancing. Our first selection is the obvious choice on recent form and with 7 of the last 10 winners of this race having a treble figure rating falls into the stat category, The R Fahey trained 7 year old gelding has actually been put up to 103 after winning off 100 last time out and runs off 98 after today which we cant ignore given that so many of the field are due to be dropped in the handicap after today's race and should really be in there pitching come the business end. Selection 2 Major Jumbo has been a bit disappointing of late but has placed 3 times this term off higher marks that he has today so would be no surprise to see this K Ryan trained 6 year old gelding do better today, and finally our cliff horse Arecibo who I personally feel has the right trip today
Zwayyan 8/1 1.5 Pts E/W William Hill
While most eyes will be drawn to Shelir and Brunch one that may get overlooked in this 7 year old gelding from the A Balding yard. He has been hovering over marks between 95 and 103 for a couple of years now and has raced 3 times since the resumption of racing on marks of 98 and 96 which was his last time out effort. He was a 3.25L 4th of 10 to Bullfinch over a mile at Kempton after previously being last of 14 in Goodwoods Golden Mile Hcp. Our selections seasonal debut was decent enough when a 2L 4th of 9 behind Montatham over a mile at Sandown of 98. While the aforementioned two horses have been hit by the handicapper Zwayyan has been dropped a lb to 95. Certainly not one to rely on as can be a bit in and out but if putting it all in should be firmly in the mix?

Lazuli 7/2 2 Pt Win (Bog) Ladbrokes (Winner)
Cracker of a race that even the odds compilers have had difficulty pricing up. It should really revolve around the top 3 in the market with the top horse being the highest rated but out of form, Tis Marvellous winning well last time out but is totally unreliable our pin falls on another unreliable type is the form o f the C Appleby trained 3 year old gelding Lazuli. Our selection has been favourite in 5 of his 7 races to date and underwent wind surgery before the resumption of racing. He has had 4 runs this term and acquitted himself well enough in all of them winning off 100 and 2nd start and his final race was a 2.25L 4th of 10 to Maystar in a French listed event. Should run well and has excellent win claims.
Ouzo 10/1 1 Pt E/W (Bog) Boyles (Paying 4 Places)
Although this R Hannon trained 4 year old gelding has not won since June of last year and is 9lb above his last winning mark he is on the whole been progressive. He came from of break of 64 days for his last run when he finished a very respectable 5th of 17 to Montatham beaten 3.25L off 95 over a mile at York. Has been dropped to 94 for this which looks workable and as such should hold above average place claims?
Fox Vardy 9/4 3 Pt Win Willaim Hill
Can be forgiven for the woeful last time out effort when beaten over 30L as he hated the ground and we expect much better today from this M Meade trained 4 year old gelding. Jockey SDS gets this best out of him having ridden him 3 times in his 11 starts winning two. As long as we get no overnight rain should have too much for these and will be disappointed if he does not get back into the winners enclosure. Huge Chance!

Aliento 9/2 2 Pts E/W (Bog) Bet365 (Winner)
There is a lot to like about this M Dods trained 5 year old mare today. She started the season on a mark of
62 and runs off 60 today. She has had 3 runs since lockdown placing in two of them but our eye is drawn to her course and distance 3rd placed effort to Mr Strutter back in July of last year and that run makes her a clear form pick on the weight to time ratio. Our selection looks primed to go close today and if running as well as we expect will boost the chances of our 2nd selection in the next race. Should at the very least be placing in this and looks a perfect opportunity on paper at least to get back into the winners enclosure?
Mr Strutter 13/2 1 Pt E/W Paddy Power
Our selection here can be very hit and miss but does have decent course and distance form, was just 0.75L behind Stronsay when they were 3rd and 4th respectively over CD back in July with the R Thompson trained 6 year old gelding better off today by 2lb. He ran wide in that race finishing well but losing valuable ground. Drying ground and better draw today we expect that form to be reversed and holds decent each way claims.
Anna Of Lorraine 5/2 3 Pt Win (Bog) Bet365
Just the four career starts for this M Stoute trained 4 year old filly with 2 places on the all weather and two also ran races on turf, so is clearly suited to an artificial surface. Ran her best race to date when a 1.25L 2nd of 13 to What An Angel over a mile here last time out off 65, handicapper been decent enough only raising her 1lb for this and the drop to 7F looks ideal after leading over a mile and fading late on. Can put that course knowledge to benefit and this unexposed filly should take plenty of stopping today?

This M Appleby trained 6 year old gelding came from a break of 225 days in August last year and won over 5F at Catterick off a mark of 74. He went on to run some solid races on marks in the low 80s and very slowly regressed as the season went on, indeed running his last 8 races on the all weather. Came back to turf for his seasonal debut this year which was also his last time out effort when a 2.25L 6th of 12 to Grace and Virtue off 71. That race was coming off a break of 140 days and has been dropped to an attractive looking 69 for this. Chance is an obvious one and should be going close today?

The last time this J D Bethell trained 5 year old gelding won was over a mile at Doncaster off a mark of 87 back in June 2018 and although getting to run off marks in the 90's since that win has been a bit hit and miss. He has ran 5 times since the resumption of racing starting off on a mark of 85 and finishing off 78 which is what he runs off today. He ran off the same mark over CD last time out when a 1.75L 2nd of 11 to
Hajjam and a repeat of that effort should see him firmly in the mix come the business end of the race
George Ridsdale 9/4 3 Pt Win William Hill (Winner)
This dual purpose trained 4 year old gelding from the Mick Easterby yard has two wins to his name in a short career one over hurdles and one on the all weather which was his last time out effort. Running off a lowly mark of 50 he crushed the opposition by over 6L at Newcastle and has duly been raised to 55 for this and is due to go up again in the weights after this race. He ran with credit over CD last September when 6th of 11 just 2.75L behind the winner Power Player off 56. Big Chance of landing back to back wins?
Yoshimi 14/1 1.5 Pts E/W (Bog) Bet365
There are two divisions of this race with the other being the 16:30. This is the 3rd time this race has been ran and both previous winners were coming from breaks of 40 and 83 days. The only horse coming from such a break today is our selection. The 3 year old filly from the R Fahey yard has been somewhat disappointing in her 4 runs this term and of course there is the danger that she has not trained on but with only 9 career starts its too soon to come to that conclusion? Our selection was a short head runner up to the now 89 rated Tell Me All over CD last September off 79, running off 78 today it would be no surprise to see her run a lot better with a break under her belt and be no surprise either to see money come for her. Out of the others Danielsflyer makes most appeal.

A tight looking 9 runner handicap and our pin has fallen on the 4 year old filly from the Mrs C A Dunnett
yard. She was a 2.25L 3rd of 11 behind Spirited Guest over CD (Soft) last time out off 73. She has been dropped to 72 for this and SDS takes over the ride, indeed the last time our selection won was over 7F here back in August last year off 79 with SDS in the saddle and he has not ridden her since. So 7lb below last winning mark for this and under the same rider as her last win, she has to be given serious consideration.

I think one of the hardest things as a form reader is sticking to the rules and not letting the heart and head rule the principles of trying to find a winner based on form alone. Both my head and heart are screaming at me to leave this one alone with the obvious selection based on last few runs being North Wind, however we find ourselves selecting one that has been woefully out of form and seems to have fallen out of love with the sport he was bred for? We hope that the 80 day break can spark a revival for this B Smart trained 8 year old gelding in "The Year Of The Older Sprinter"! He has fallen dramatically down the handicap and was running off marks in the 100's from Dec 2016 right up to May 2019 so off 79 today and if in the mood to race it would not be beyond the realms of possibility for this one to go close today?

Hard to comprehend that this R Fahey trained 5 year old gelding has not won a race since Sept 2018 despite many attempts to do so. He won off 95 that day and since then the closest he has ever been to a winner was a 1.25L 3rd of 7 achieved 4 starts back off a mark of 80. Our selection ran off 80 last time out and came a 2.5L 5th of 10 to Breath Of Air at Sandown 4 days ago. This looks on paper an easier race and off 78 looks to hold decent claims.

This D O'Meara trained 3 year old filly is certainly not one to rely on and can down tools if not on a going day but does have form in the book to go well in this. She won over 5F here last July and never troubled the judge since, although she did manage a 0.50L runners up effort behind Wonderwork off 76 in June of this year. She retains the same mark (72) as her last time out effort over CD when a 1.75L 4th of 15 to After John. Drying ground could help but is still weighted to go close IF on a going day?

Changed my mind 3 times in this race and finally fell for the horses for courses spell. The expected favourite Flash Point won so well last time out and no reason to believe he won't follow up and we expect a bold bid. The out of form Jan De Heem was 3rd in this last year off 56, and is below his last winning mark off 55. Running off a lowly 52 at a track he likes he could run well at a price? However we finally settled on last year's winner The Fiddler to keep hold of his crown. He won this last year by 0.5L off 55 and is 57 today which is a falling mark from his last time out run of 59. Yes he is vulnerable but his two career wins have come over CD and he is two from two at the track.

In July of 2018 this J Butler trained 5 year old gelding achieved his career high winning mark of 82. Since then he has slowly regressed. His only win since that carrer high success came in France off 77 on the all weather. His two runs this term have been decent enough in the contect of this race and last time out was a 2.5L 4th of 15 to Karibana in a weak looking class 2 Hcp off 73, which is retained today. Should be in the mix from this mark and represents decent each way prospects.

Indeed the last time he was in a class 4 handicap he won by a comfortable 2.5L off 82 last August over a mile. Steps up to 10F for the first time today and although his Sire never won over this trip he did place 4th in a Group 1 at this very course so should be ok? If he does stay the extra yardage then he will certainly be in the mix come the business end of the race.

Just the 8 career starts for this I Mohammed trained 3 year old filly with no wins and 2 places to her name both off a mark of 70 and both gained this year. She ran a lack lustre race on the all weather last time out at Lingfield and the handicapper has dropped her to 65 for this, which based on her turf form looks a gift. If she runs to the level of her two previous turf runs then she will have a major chance of shedding the maiden tag?

Milltown Star 12/1 1 Pt E/W (Bog) Bet365
This M Channon trained 3 year old gelding has been overall progressive and consistent ending last season with a listed win over in France off a mark of 91 (all weather) and then was kept off track for 284 days showing the ability was retained when a 1.5L 4th of 8 to Cold Stare off 100 which he retains today. That race was on the soft at Goodwood (7F) and would have blown away the cobwebs. The French horse Happy Bere is available at 33/1 at the time of writing which looks way too big, already finished in front of our selection in France last year when Miltown Star fell and Happy Bere won with the winner also much shorter in the market. We would not put anyone off having a tiny saver and a price that on paper at least looks far too big.
Breanski 9/1 2 Pts E/W Unibet 3rd
Although the lightly raced favourite Fresh won well last time out and is open to improvement the form on offer is mainly from the all weather with his sole turf run not looking so great, of course will have the scope to improve a bundle but is taking on more experienced handicappers here and as such looks vulnerable. There are 3 in the field that look to have solid claims should the favourite bomb, and they are Gunmetal, Flying Pursuit and our selection Breanski. This Jed O'Keeffe trained 6 year old gelding holds his form well and seldom runs a bad race. His last win came off 84 over 7f (Soft) here last August. He has been dropped a pound for this following on from his last time out effort here again over 7F when a 1.75L 6th of 11 to Magical Wish. Interesting that the trainer drops him down to 6f for the first time in a turf race.

There is no doubt that Dakota Gold will appreciate the drop back to 5F today and is a huge danger to all but we like the way this J D Bethell trained 4 year old gelding has been progressing. Our selection has had 3 runs this term improving in each of them with a York listed win off 105 on the 2nd of those runs. Improved again last time out off a mark of 108 to be 3rd of 8 just 3l behind the 126 rated Battaash off level weights in the Group 1 Nunthorpe. A repeat of that run would be good enough to take this and bold bid anticipated.
Courtside 16 1 Pt E/W Paddy Power (Paying 5 Places)
Going to take a punt on this D O'Meara trained 5 year old gelding. Formally trained by D Simcock he is relatively lightly raced with one win from 13 and only 4 runs since March 2019 coming from a break over 485 days to make his seasonal debut. He has clearly had his problems and his two runs to date this season offer little encouragement, however excuses can be made for those two runs as track and ground conditions are a valid reason for those efforts. He last won off a mark of 69 in June of 2018 but was only beaten 3L at Ascot in Oct of that year off 81. Worth chancing that on better ground today he can show some of that previous form and from a mark of 69 is worth an interest.
Caradoc 15/2 1.5 Pts E/W William Hill (Paying 4 Places) 3rd
A very tough looking handicap and a case can be made for several but the stand out for us in this 5 year old gelding from the Ed Walker yard. His run in the John Smith Cup two runs ago is better than it looks on paper when he was 9th of 22 over 7L behind the winner Sinjaari off 100. Just a Length in front that day was Euchen Glen who won off 101 earlier this week. Running off 97 today he has to be of interest and holds strong win and place claims.

Stronsay 9/1 1 Pt E/W Paddy Power 3rd
Just one win in 22 starts for this Liam Bailey trained 4 year old gelding and that was when trained by B Smart in August 2018 off a mark of 70. Our selection although clearly hard to win with has some place form over the course including a 1.25L 3rd behind Murdanova off 72 last June over 7F. He drops to a career low 57 today a massive 13lb below his last winning mark and should hold decent each way claims?

The last time this R Fell trained 6 year old gelding won a race was at Muss (7F) in May of 2018 off 78 going on to place a couple of times after that win on marks in the 80's, has been slightly regressive since. Came back from lockdown to finish runner up off 70 over 7F at Thirsk (GS) just 0.50L behind the winner Magical Effect. He has had 4 further runs since then and on the whole has ran well without ever looking likely to trouble the judge. He runs off 70 again today and this looks a very winnable race. If matching that comeback run we can see this one being very difficult to beat?

Tadaawol 9/1 1.5 Pts E/W Paddy Power 2nd (R4 15p)
A lazy frustrating type who cannot be relied on but is worth chancing judging from his last time out effort when a 3.5L 4th of 13 to Serenading off 63 over 6f at Newcastle. This R Fell trained 7 year old gelding last won in May of last year off a mark of 80 so is 17lb below last winning mark. Would prefer a sounder surface but did place on good to soft off 80 at Chester again in May of last year. No doubt a risky proposition but one that at least on paper looks a well handicapped one?
Lady Calcaria 13/2 1.5 Pts E/W Bet Victor
We had this T Easterby trained 4 year old filly on site last time out and was a wee bit disappointing when heavily backed into favourite finishing down field over 7L behind the winner off 65 which she retains today. She was given an awful ride that day, leading from the front and far too free and duly folded tamely. If she can match her runners up effort previous to that run when she was a 0.75L runner up behind The Armed Man off 64 she will be firmly in the mix. Of the others Inner Circle and Sorbonne make most appeal.

There was a lot to like about this M Attwater trained 4 year old geldings two runs under his new trainer after previously being with D Loughnane. The first of those runs was a 3.25L 10th of 27 behind Summerghand off 87 and then followed a comfortable 1.25L victory off 86 over 5f at Bath. Has been put up to 90 for this but is in good form and can handle cut in the ground. Of the others the most interesting runner by a country mile is Mubaalegh who has been dropped to a mark that certainly makes him worth a 2nd look.

This could end up being a tactical affair and as such we will need jockey R Dawson to get his fractions right as we expect this R Varain trained 4 year old filly to lead from the front. He has 3L to find on the re-opposing Indie Angel from her last time out Sandown run but was giving that rival over a stone that day. Our selection likes Ascot and ran a blinder to be runner up from a lengthy break on seasonal debut when just 0.75L behind Sir Busker over CD, a time ran over 2 seconds faster than the CD win of likely favourite Manaabit. Strong win and each way claims.

This former inmate of Tom Dascombe was a bit regressive last year but the 4 year old gelding seems to have found a new lease of life since moving to the Ed Walker yard and looks to be cherry ripe for this contest. His last time out effort off 89 which he retains today was decent in the context of this race when a 3.25L 5th of 21 to Acclaim The Nation over 5.5F at York, he does not mind a bit of cut in the ground and won off 96 on the soft back n Oct 2018. Should almost certainly be in there pitching come the business end of the race today with conditions very much in his favour
Future Investment 8/1 1 Pt E/W (Bog) Ladbrokes
This R Beckett trained 4 year old gelding looks progressive with just the 9 career starts and 3 wins already to his name, ran his best race to date last time out when winning by 1.5L over 2 miles at Chester on good to soft off 90 and handicapper has taken no chances whacking him up another 6lb for this. However there is no reason to believe this one has reached his peak and every chance of performing well in this despite the rise in mark and looks to have a solid each way chance today.

This 4 year old gelding from the W Haggas yard has had 4 runs this year and has been somewhat disappointing, however he started on a high mark of 96 for his seasonal return after lockdown and has fallen to a very attractive looking 91 for this. His last win came off 88 but he was a very close 2nd (neck) behind Tinto off 93 at Ascot (6F) last Oct, he enjoys a bit of cut in the ground and is handicapped to go very close today.

This D O'Meara trained 5 year old gelding is no world beater but arrives here for this with decent each way prospects, his last win came off 78 back in July last year over a mile at Ascot and although not winning since he has been placed in better races than this off higher marks than he has here (80) and his profile suggests he needs a few runs to get to peak fitness, today could be the day?

This J L Flint trained 7 year old gelding is nothing if not consistent in this type of race, with just the two career wins he is not one to put faith in but always gives a run for your money. Ran well to be runner up over 2 miles last time out off a mark of 63, been put up to 65 for this which is still 2lb below his last winning a mark. A significant drop in trip today but has ran well in the past from higher marks at 12F so holds strong each way claims.

We like the profile of this J G Portman trained 4 year old filly who looks handicapped to run well here. Clearly hard to win with after just one all weather success but she has fallen to a decent mark. History has shown she clearly gets better with races under her belt so we can expect a better showing today than her last time out well beaten 3rd of 11 off 54 at Wolves, a mark she retains today. If she can match her Windsor run of last September when 3rd over 10f to Verify off 64 it would make her extremely difficult to beat here.

In this extraordinary year some racing trainers are taking a while to come to hand with their strings especially those who do well in handicaps. Mick Easterby has been on the cold list of late but surely his yard will be hitting it's stride soon? We like the look of his yard's 8 year old gelding here who is falling down the weights and has not raced on a mark in the high 70's for a while now (June 2017) and duly won. His last win was way back in April 2018 off a mark of 91. Although seemingly just going through the motions in his 4 runs this term he should be more than competitive from his mark of 79 under perfect conditions.

This M Dods trained 8 year old gelding has been running well enough in his 3 starts since the resumption of racing with a 4th of 12, 6th of 12 and 4th of 11 finishes, starting from a mark of 68 and ending with a 3L defeat off 63 which he retains today. He last won off a mark of 70 (Heavy 8F Carlisle) back in Sept 2018. Still 7lb below that last winning mark on ground he should relish. Draw could have been kinder but a big run is anticipated by us nonetheless.
Quick Look 12/1 1 Pt E/W Paddy Power (Paying 4 Places) 4th
We end our Ripon selections as we started inasmuch as we have chosen another from the M Easterby yard. This 7 year old gelding is 2lb higher than his last winning mark achieved at Chester (Soft) back in June last year a race won by a comfortable 2L. Since that win he has so often thrown away his chances by being very tardy out of the stalls. Looked like could be coming to hand judging from his last time out 6th of 12 beaten just 1L to Zig Zag Zyggy, a result that is better than it reads on paper given our selection ran wide. There does not seem to be a lot of pace in the race which could help our selection, that pace is likely to come from what we consider to be our biggest threat and that is Abel Handy, who if given an easy lead which is very probable could be very hard to peg back?
